A new build of Guild Wars and the force kick
We all love the updates, but not neccessarily while we're doing something... I'm currently on a Charr DL session in Pre and I'm wondering how much time will the update wait before I get force-kicked from the game?
And another thing... can I perform a "controlled DC", download the update and then restore connection back to the map I DCed on? I know I shoulda knew these things already after so many years, but honstly I've never postponed an update download before and that's why I need some help here... |

I don't think you're ever kicked from the game unless they force it, like during Wintersday when multiple builds were running at the same time. Last night I was afk during the new build and my chat log was full with the 'please restart' message but it didn't kick me.

Nope u can't restore it. My pre warrior should be lvl 17 now.. But he got D/C last night because of the update. So still 16 I was not able to reconnect.
Is it save to do another DL session this night? I have no idea about when There is a new build |

Don't know about update related kicks, but in the past I've definitely seen plenty of disconnects while deathleveling Charr for extended periods. There is supposedly a 12 (or 24?) hour auto-kick, though. Hard to say sometimes.

All I'm saying is that I didn't experience a kick last night when I was afk for about 4 hours after the new build message. Don't know about longer times.

Me and a guildie had the exact same problem with the new build last night.
We both set up our dlvl at more or less the same time. And then both saw the restart new build message. We left our dlvl's running. But we both got dc ~8hours after the new build came. Neither of us could reconnect. The fact that we both got dc at exactly the same time suggest there is some sort of auto kick with new builds. As i said dc was ~8hours after new build message, so maybe take that as a benchmark. If anyone has any further info on this i would also be very interested to hear As we all know what Anet are like during events, new build new build new build, to fix all the bugs. So whether its worth dlvl during the event, or what timeframe (if any) after a new build we have. Would be very nice to know. EDIT: 10 hours is also what me and my guildie believed was the standard time. But like i mentioned we both got kicked after 8 hours. Needless to say we werent happy this morning. Considering we thought we had 10 hours and that would have been around 9:30-10am GMT. But we both got DC at ~7:30am. Last edited by Sir Tieger; Jan 29, 2010 at 10:53 PM // 22:53.. Reason: typos.... |

I have been afk for hours during new builds and also have never experienced a forced kick. Im guessing that it may have something to do with what the build actually is. Like when Kamadan disappears off the map after a new build they might force the build to fix it on you.
how do you know this? Last edited by nitetime; Jan 29, 2010 at 10:53 PM // 22:53.. |

You can't reconnect after an update because you're not reconnecting with the same build as the old server. Just puttin' that out there.

Alot of people also say that being online for 24 hours will result in an kick. I never experienced this, And I know people who bin online for 6 days So i'm not sure about this one! Yup |

WAIT a second...
there is an automatic KICK at 24 hours. So if you are doing DLing 2 secession in a row.. your going to get disconnected new build or not. My war is lvl 19 in pre.. and staying that way cause of the lvl 19 fire imp - atleast for now- and New builds DC you and so does the 24hour timer . You just have to live with it. Never DL on Thursdays That = fail... |

I have been connected for more than 3 - 4 days with no disconnects, Not for a while because i have been busy and not to mention my bad internet lately But there is no automatic disconnect (unless) there is a new build, in which case it will warn you 60 minutes before disconnecting you from the game.
The update last night was no exception, i had been connected for 14 hours and when i came back home and checked the death level and i spotted the warning on screen warning me that i would be disconnected in 60 minutes. Needless to say i quickly killed those charr and reloaded guild wars for the new build! |

My question would be - was there some indication that this disconnect was the result of something ANet did? Was there a warning 60min before, for example. It's always possible that your ISP did the disconnect.

you think this is bad? I just finished an UW run and got myself a nice mini Dhuum out of the chest right before build swap off wintersday. they decided to take down all wintersday stuff at the same time and roll back servers 15 mins. Guess who appeared in ToA w/o chest rewards...
